 Simone Cumberbatch has sharpened her acumen about the world of business following completion of a Master of Science degree in International Business Management with the University of Surrey in Guilford, England, in collaboration with the Barbados Institute of Management and Productivity (BIMAP).
Cumberbatch, an employee at the Barbados Light and Power Company Limited, singled out the programme, because it enabled her to successfully balance the demands of pursuing a postgraduate qualification, while holding a fulltime job.
"Initially, I wanted to study at a university in Britain, but my relatives there lived in a remote part of the country. Consequently, I opted for BIMAP, because it proved more feasible to study through University of Surrey's distance learning programme."
Aspiring to climb the rungs of the corporate ladder, where she hopes to continue making a greater contribution, she urges Barbadians who have professional experience, but lack formal qualifications, to see education as a passport that would enable their careers to takeoff.
Crediting God for her success on the MSc programme, Cumberbatch said that she remains indebted to her mother Gail Cumberbatch who has always provided her with tremendous encouragement and support.
Cumberbatch completed eight modules for her MSc including International Human Resource Management, International Business Management, International Trade, Managing Human Resources, Marketing, Research Methods, E-Business and Strategy. Part of the modules included a dissertation.
